Hoeven: Sweden & Finland are Strong Additions to NATO

WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven issued the following statement today after the U.S. Senate voted to approve the accession of Finland and Sweden to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Hoeven previously joined his colleagues in offering full support for the nations joining NATO and sent a letter to President Biden urging he expedite the executive branch’s part of the approval process. The Resolution of Ratification passed the Senate with more than a two-thirds vote in favor of the treaty.

“We support NATO because the alliance makes America more secure,” said Hoeven. “The United States and our NATO allies share the goal of deterring further Russian aggression in Europe, and Finland and Sweden bring strong military capabilities in support of those efforts. We welcome Finland and Sweden into NATO and reaffirm our shared commitment to the defense of freedom against aggression and tyranny.”
