Hoeven Statement on the Fifth Anniversary of the Keystone XL Application with No Decision

WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven today issued the following statement to mark the fifth anniversary of TransCanada’s application to the U.S. State Department for a permit for the Keystone XL pipeline project:

“The Keystone XL pipeline project will create tens of thousands of jobs, boost our economy, help reduce our dependence on Middle Eastern oil and raise billions of dollars in revenues to address our nation’s deficit and debt.

“North American oil and gas production is burgeoning, driven by a revolution in new technologies that are producing more energy with better environmental stewardship than ever before and it’s happening right here at home. Every concern has been reasonably answered, and it’s time for economic reality, common sense and the will of the people to prevail. It’s time to approve the Keystone XL pipeline project.”

Senator Hoeven today will provide support for the long-delayed energy infrastructure project at a hearing of the U.S. House Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade at 10:30 a.m. EDT. Following the hearing, at 11:30 a.m. the senator will speak on the Senate floor about the Keystone XL pipeline project. At 2:30 p.m. he will lead a bipartisan news conference in support of the project on Capitol Hill featuring Senate and House leaders, as well as leaders from labor and business.
