Hoeven: President Includes Cybersecurity Workforce Rotation Program in Executive Order

Provision Mirrors the Peters-Hoeven Federal Rotational Cyber Workforce Program Act, Legislation Passed by the Senate this Week

WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven released the following statement after the President announced a cybersecurity workforce executive order that includes a rotational cyber workforce program, like the Federal Rotational Cyber Workforce Program Act, bipartisan legislation introduced by Senators Hoeven and Gary Peters (D-Mich). The senators’ bill, which was unanimously passed by the Senate this week, creates a civilian personnel rotation program for cybersecurity professionals at federal agencies.

“The federal government needs to train and retain cybersecurity professionals to meet growing demand,” said Hoeven. “The Senate unanimously passed our Federal Rotational Cyber Workforce Program Act which would develop a rotational cyber workforce program that enables federal employees to broaden their experience by serving across multiple government agencies. We appreciate the President including a rotational program in his executive order and we will continue working to advance our legislation to help the federal government better fulfill its need for cybersecurity professionals.”

The Federal Rotational Cyber Workforce Program Act creates a civilian personnel rotation program for cybersecurity professionals at federal agencies. This program would enable employees to serve across multiple government agencies, allowing them to gain experience beyond their primary assignment and expand their professional networks.
