Hoeven Nominates Three Students For Military Academy Appointments

WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven today announced that he has nominated three North Dakota students for appointments to the nation’s military academies. Hoeven nominated Elijah Stewart of Minot to the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA), Seth Hanson of Grand Forks to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point (USMA) and Emily Robinson, formerly of Minot, to the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA).

“It is a privilege to nominate outstanding young people for appointments to our service academies,” said Hoeven. “These individuals are very motivated to succeed and we are glad to see their commitment to serve our nation. Elijah, Seth and Emily have excelled in their studies and all they have set out to achieve. We are confident that they will do a great job representing our state and our country during their time at the Naval, Military and Air Force academies and in their military appointments and future careers.”

As part of the application process, service academies require students to be nominated by a member of Congress or the Vice President. Each academy determines final appointments. Those appointed receive a scholarship and military appointment and must serve in the military for at least five years following graduation.

Individuals interested in applying for a military academy nomination for academic year 2018-2019 should submit an application by October 2018. Additional information on service academy nominations is available through Senator Hoeven’s website.
