Hoeven: Congratulations to Basin Electric for Five Decades of Service to North Dakota

WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven today congratulated Basin Electric Power Cooperative for fifty years of service to North Dakota’s rural areas.

“Across the state, North Dakotans have access to dependable electricity because of Basin Electric’s professional expertise and commitment to good service. We are grateful for their fifty years of dedication to our state and all areas served by their member cooperatives. As one of the largest electric generation and transmission cooperatives in the United States, Basin is an energy leader, and we look forward to its continued dedication and innovation in the decades to come,” Hoeven said.

Basin Electric Power Cooperative is a not-for-profit generation and transmission cooperative incorporated in 1961 to provide supplemental power to a consortium of rural electric cooperatives. Its diverse energy portfolio includes coal, gas, oil, nuclear, distributed, and renewable energy, including wind power. Consumer-owned by more than 135 member cooperative systems, Basin Electric’s service territories comprise 540,000 square miles in nine states.

The cooperative is celebrating its anniversary during an annual meeting in Bismarck. Senator Hoeven is scheduled to address the gathering of members tomorrow with Senator Kent Conrad via satellite from Washington, D.C.
