Hoeven Votes to Preserve State-Level Pro-Life Laws

WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven today issued the following statement after voting to preserve state-level, pro-life laws across the nation. The senator strongly opposed and helped prevent the passage of legislation supported by Senate Democrats that would have prevented states from enacting any laws that impede access to abortion services, including for late-term abortions, or place any limits on the prescription of abortion inducing drugs.

“We remain committed to protecting the unborn and the health of mothers and opposed this legislation, which goes far beyond just codifying Roe v. Wade into law. The bill would have overridden current and future pro-life laws at the state level, including in North Dakota, removing nearly all protections for the unborn and effectively legalizing across the country, abortion on demand until birth. That’s why we voted against this legislation and stopped this bill from becoming law.”
