Hoeven: UK Trade Deal a Good Start Toward Ensuring a Level Playing-Field for U.S. Producers

WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven, chairman of the Senate Agriculture Appropriations Committee and a senior member of the Senate Agriculture Committee, today issued the following statement after the Trump administration announced a new trade deal with the United Kingdom.

“Foreign countries have long put up excessive tariffs and other barriers that close off their markets, while expecting easy access to U.S. consumers. Our producers deserve a level playing-field in the global marketplace, and with this new trade deal with the U.K., the Trump administration is making real progress to ensure better treatment of our farmers and ranchers, among other industries,” said Hoeven. “Importantly, this deal will open the door to $5 billion in U.S. export opportunities, including nearly $1 billion for ag products like ethanol and beef. That’s a good start, and we look forward to additional opportunities as these negotiations proceed.”
