Hoeven Statement on Voting Against Democrats' Bill to Federalize Elections

WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven today released the following statement after voting to preserve the Senate filibuster and against Democrats’ legislation that would take away the authority of the states to conduct their own elections:

“The Constitution vests authority in the states to conduct their elections. I oppose this legislation and attempts to federalize our election process. I don’t believe North Dakotans want the federal government to determine how we conduct our elections. Further, this is exactly the type of extreme partisan legislation that the filibuster was meant to prevent. Accordingly, I voted to preserve the Senate’s filibuster rule and against the Democrats’ attempt to strip states’ authority over elections.”
