Hoeven Statement on Today's Nebraska Supreme Court Decision

BISMARCK, N.D. – Senator John Hoeven today issued the following statement in response to the Nebraska Supreme Court’s decision:

“Today, the Nebraska Supreme Court ruled that the governor and legislature have the authority to approve a route for the Keystone XL pipeline through their state and the route was properly determined. Only the federal government is holding it up, and that’s unfortunate because the Keystone XL pipeline is all about energy, jobs, economic growth, and national security.

“After more than six years of delay, a host of favorable environmental reviews and Nebraska’s Supreme Court ruling today, President Obama has no excuse to further delay the Keystone XL pipeline project.

“Regardless of what the president decides to do, however, we are proceeding with our legislation to approve the Keystone XL pipeline project based on Congress’s authority under the Commerce Clause of the U.S. Constitution because it’s the right thing to do for the American people.”
