Hoeven Statement on President's Executive Order Promoting Agriculture, Rural America

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator John Hoeven released the following statement after the President signed an executive order today recognizing the importance of the nation’s agriculture industry and creating a taskforce, led by U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue, to promote agriculture and rural America. The executive order requires an interagency review to identify improvements to promote American agriculture and improve quality of life in rural America.

“Our nation’s farmers and ranchers provide the highest-quality, lowest-cost food supply in the world,” said Hoeven. “The President’s executive order today recognizes the tremendous work being done on farms and ranches and in rural communities across the country and identifies improvements necessary to promote our agriculture industry and support rural economic growth. We appreciate the Administration’s focus on improving agricultural trade and removing the regulatory roadblocks making it harder for our producers to succeed.”

Yesterday, Hoeven voted to confirm Perdue as secretary of Agriculture to ensure the nation’s agriculture sector is well-represented. The senator plays a key role in shaping the nation’s agriculture policy as a member of the Senate Agriculture Committee and chairman of the Senate Agriculture Appropriations Committee. Hoeven also served as a member of the Senate-House Conference Committee that crafted the final farm bill of 2014.
