Hoeven Statement on Dedication of New Dakota Spirit AgEnergy Biorefinery

WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven today issued the following statement in response to today’s dedication of the Dakota Spirit AgEnergy biorefinery:

“The Dakota Spirit AgEnergy biorefinery is a triple win. It’s a win for jobs, a win for energy independence and a win for the environment. This innovative plant will use steam from Great River Energy’s Spiritwood Station and corn from local farmers to produce ethanol, distillers grains and fuel-grade corn oil.

“Back in 2007, I witnessed the beginning of this combined energy project, which was a part of Empower North Dakota, our comprehensive energy plan for our state. The concept was to colocate facilities in order to maximize their strengths. It was a glimpse into the future, and now, with the Dakota Spirit AgEnergy facility, the future has arrived. Today, I am pleased to celebrate its completion.

“The facility will help bring down the cost of fuel for consumers, create a new market for farmers, and bring us a step closer to our long-sought goal of American energy independence. I am proud of the innovation and creativity of all those who envisioned this remarkable project and helped bring it from concept to reality.”
