Hoeven Statement on Cuba Policy

Senator Supports Agricultural Trade with Cuba, Continues Pressing for Human Rights Changes

WASHINGTON –Senator John Hoeven today released the following statement after the President announced policies regarding U.S. relations with Cuba.

“We need to continue working to expand agricultural trade wherever we can, including Cuba. It appears that the Administration’s policy allows for our producers to continue selling agricultural commodities to Cuba, which has mutual benefits for U.S. producers as well as the Cuban people. We should continue our efforts to expand agricultural sales to Cuba.

“At the same time, we have yet to see any real progress in regard to the Cuban government’s record on human rights. So while we work to expand agriculture trade, we need to keep diplomatic pressure on Cuba to change its human rights policies.”
