Hoeven Statement on Cancellation of Summit with North Korea

WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven today released the following statement after the administration announced the cancellation of the summit for negotiations between the U.S. and North Korea:

“North Korea has repeatedly used negotiations as a ploy to gain concessions and aid from our nation and our allies without rolling back its nuclear program. The erratic behavior from North Korea’s leadership in recent weeks follows this same pattern. We need to keep maximum pressure on the Kim regime through sanctions, and by urging China to press North Korea as well, to dismantle its nuclear weapons program.”
