Hoeven Statement After Meeting with Attorney General Nominee William Barr

WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven issued the following statement after meeting with William Barr, who has been nominated to serve as Attorney General of the United States.

“Bill Barr has a strong record of public service and will bring a wealth of experience to the Department of Justice. He has shown a deep commitment to upholding the rule of law throughout his time in public service, and again affirmed a commitment to states’ rights during our meeting. Given his strong record and his previous service as Attorney General under President George H.W. Bush, I believe Bill Barr has the qualifications and experience to lead the Department of Justice again, and look forward to supporting his confirmation.”

At the meeting, the senator also urged Barr, when confirmed, to ensure that the Department of Justice upholds states’ rights and works with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the State of North Dakota to review and resolve public road and access issues in and around the Little Missouri, Sheyenne and Cedar River National Grasslands.
