Hoeven Statement After BLM Schedules Lease Sale for Tracts Adjacent to Coyote Creek Mine

BISMARCK – Senator John Hoeven, a member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, today issued the following statement after the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) scheduled a lease sale to award 320-acres of federal coal adjacent to the Coyote Creek Mine southwest of Beulah. The lease tracts contain an estimated 5.23 million tons of federal coal.

“We appreciate BLM working to make these federal resources available, which will help support jobs and economic growth in the region,” said Hoeven. “This lease sale will enable access to federal coal reserves located within the Coyote Creek Mine and allow for the development of this critical energy resource, while providing a benefit to taxpayers.”

Hoeven has worked to provide regulatory relief to empower states to make the best use of all of their energy resources, including rolling back the moratorium on federal coal leasing.
