Hoeven: Senate Passes FY18 Budget Resolution, Required First Step to Provide Tax Relief for Hardworking Americans

WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven released the following statement after the U.S. Senate approved the Fiscal Year 2018 Budget Resolution, which is the required first step in order to enact comprehensive tax reforms for working individuals, families and small businesses. The budget resolution provides instructions enabling Congress to enact tax reform, while reining in federal spending and boosting economic growth.

“This budget is needed to provide Congress with the tools to enact comprehensive tax reforms that will allow individuals and families to keep more of their hard-earned money, support our small businesses and get our economy going and growing,” said Hoeven. “At the same time, this is a pro-growth budget that balances in 10 years while continuing to support our priorities including strong support for our military. Additionally, the budget continues to fund Medicare and Medicaid and any changes to these programs would require separate legislation with a 60 vote threshold. Also, funding for Social Security continues and is not impacted by the budget. Again, passage of this budget is necessary in order to pass tax relief for hardworking Americans.”
