Hoeven, North Dakota Officials Honor Staff Sergeant Romesha

Senator Presents Medal of Honor Recipient Romesha with Statement Entered into the Congressional Record

BISMARCK, N.D. – Senator John Hoeven and state officials today held a reception in honor of U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Clinton Romesha, who was recently awarded the Medal of Honor for his courageous actions against an armed enemy in Afghanistan on October 3, 2009. Hoeven thanked Romesha for his distinguished service during the reception and presented him with a bound and printed copy of the statement the senator entered into the Congressional Record last week on the floor of the U.S. Senate.

“North Dakota is blessed and proud to be home to Staff Sgt. Romesha and his family,” Hoeven said. “He provides us with a true example of heroic, selfless sacrifice, not only by his actions in Afghanistan, but also by his modesty and recognition of the sacrifices of his fellow soldiers. He represents the best that our state and nation have to offer. We thank him for his service and we wish him the best in all of his future endeavors.”

Hoeven also participated in the Feb. 11 ceremony in Washington D.C. at which President Obama presented Romesha with the Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest military honor.
