Hoeven Nominates Six Students to Military Academies

WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven today announced that he has nominated six North Dakota students for appointments to the nation’s military academies. Hoeven nominated Catherine Schlosser of St. Mary’s Central High School in Bismarck to the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA); MacKenzie Kirkpatrick of Fargo North High School in Fargo to the USNA; Jacob Dosch of Shanley High School in Fargo to the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA); Ryan Hermes of Oakes High School in Oakes to the USAFA; Adelyn Emter of Trinity High School in Dickinson to the U.S. Military Academy (West Point); and Cassidy Sanderson of Devils Lake High School in Devils Lake to West Point.

“We are extremely impressed by Catherine, MacKenzie, Jacob, Ryan, Adelyn and Cassidy, who have excelled in their studies, as well as their extracurricular and service activities,” said Hoeven. “It is a privilege to nominate these talented individuals and we are proud they have chosen to serve our country. We’re confident they will do a tremendous job representing our state and our country.”

Students applying for Military Academies are required to receive a Congressional nomination as part of the application process.  These 6 students have now fulfilled that requirement and their names will be submitted to the respective academy.  Each service academy admission board will determine final appointments. Those appointed receive a scholarship and military appointment and must serve in the military for at least five years following graduation.

Individuals interested in applying for a military academy nomination for academic year 2020-2021 should submit an application by October 2020. Additional information on service academy nominations is available on Senator Hoeven’s website.
