Hoeven Nominates Four Students to Military Academies

WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven today announced that he has nominated four North Dakota students for appointments to the nation’s military academies. Hoeven nominated Seth Benson of Sheyenne High School in West Fargo to West Point (USMA); Logan Brown of Century High School in Bismarck to the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA); Jeffrey Corcoran of Red River High School in Grand Forks to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA); and Luke Noah of Shanley High School in Fargo to the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA).

“Seth, Logan, Jeffrey and Luke have distinguished themselves in their studies, extracurricular activities and community service and involvement,” said Hoeven. “We are impressed that they have chosen to pursue a place at our nation’s service academies to cultivate excellence in academics and leadership. It is a privilege to nominate them, and we are confident that they will do an excellent job representing North Dakota during their time at the Air Force, Merchant Marine, Naval and Military academies and in serving our country during their appointments.”

Service academies, as part of the application process, require students to be nominated by a member of Congress or the Vice President. Each academy determines final appointments. Those appointed receive a scholarship and military appointment and must serve in the military for at least five years following graduation.

Individuals interested in applying for a military academy nomination for academic year 2019-2020 should submit an application by October 2019. Additional information on service academy nominations is available on Senator Hoeven’s website.
