Hoeven Meets with Canadian Ambassador, Alberta Premier to Advance Keystone XL Pipeline Project

WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven Wednesday met with Canadian Ambassador Gary Doer and Alberta Premier Alison Redford to advance the Keystone XL pipeline project. The senator and Canadian officials pledged to work closely together to secure approval of the 1,700 mile modern, energy infrastructure project that will create thousands of jobs on both sides of the boarder.

Doer and Redford were in Washington to help build support for the Keystone XL project in Congress. They met with Hoeven to discuss how best to advance the project. Last month, Hoeven got a bipartisan majority of the senate to vote in support of the Keystone XL project last month, with a filibuster-proof majority of 62 to 37.

The ambassador, premier and senator also affirmed a wider U.S. – Canadian energy alliance that would ensure a safe and reliable flow of oil and help both nations to achieve long-term energy security.

“All of this sends a clear signal to the White House that Congress and the American people support the Keystone XL project, and don’t want to see it delayed any further,” Hoeven said. “Canada is already by far our largest trade partner and securing a long-term energy relationship between our two countries makes sense in multiple ways – it ensures a regular stream of energy for industry, grows our economy, creates jobs and it helps us to achieve true, energy security.”
