Hoeven, Heitkamp, Cramer to Host Transportation Sec. Foxx in Casselton to Review Rail Safety

WASHINGTON – Senators John Hoeven and Heidi Heitkamp and Congressman Kevin Cramer today announced that they will host U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Secretary Anthony Foxx in Casselton on April 24. The DOT head will visit North Dakota at the delegation’s request, to improve rail safety.

Secretary Foxx will be in Casselton on April 24 to meet with local leaders and to update the community on steps being taken to improve rail safety. The delegation met in January with Foxx, Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration Head Cynthia Quarterman, and Federal Railroad Administration head Joseph C. Szabo, as well as oil and rail industry leaders to develop strategies to prevent derailments and to reduce the risk of fire or explosions should a derailment occur.

“We look forward to bringing Secretary Foxx to Casselton to meet with community and state leaders to ensure that we have everyone working together to improve rail safety. We are doing all we can to make rail transportation safer for our communities and our state,” said the delegation.
