Hoeven Cosponsors Legislation & Resolution in Support of Israel

WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven this week reaffirmed support for Israel as it defends itself against attacks out of Gaza. To this end, Hoeven is advancing the following efforts:

  • Cosponsoring the Israel Sovereignty Reassurance Act of 2021 introduced by Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) this week. As President Trump formally recognized the Golan Heights as a part of Israel in 2019, this legislation would prohibit the State Department from taking action to rescind U.S. recognition, ensuring the U.S. continues to support the State of Israel in securing this vital region.
  • Cosponsoring a resolution introduced by Senator Rick Scott (R-Fla.) earlier this week opposing the Hamas attacks against Israel and calling for support of Israel’s right to defend itself against terror attacks, including whatever means are necessary to protect its people and the foreign nationals residing in Israel.
  • Joining Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) in pressing President Biden last week not to provide sanctions relief to Iran, a known financier of Hamas’s terrorist activities.

“This is about standing with our ally and expressing strong support for Israel,” said Hoeven. “For more than twenty years, Hamas has been designated as a terrorist organization and we condemn the attacks coming out of Gaza. The Biden administration needs to make it clear that the United States stands with Israel.”
