Hoeven Congratulates Minot Air Force Base's 91st Missile Wing and 5th Bomb Wing for Receiving Omaha Trophy Awards

MINOT, N.D. – Senator John Hoeven today congratulated Minot Air Force Base (MAFB) after the U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) announced the 2019 Omaha Trophy award winners. MAFB’s 5th Bomb Wing received the Strategic Bomber Omaha Trophy, recognizing their efforts as the best strategic bombing wing in USSTRATCOM units. The 91st Missile Wing, also stationed at MAFB, received the Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Omaha Trophy, recognizing their efforts as the premier ICBM wing supporting USSTRATCOM’s strategic deterrence mission.

“The Omaha Trophy awards are a testament to the incredible efforts of the airmen and women at Minot Air Force Base, both in the 5th Bomb Wing and the 91st Missile Wing,” said Hoeven. “Minot Air Force Base plays an integral role in the nation’s defense, and we continue working to modernize and upgrade our nuclear forces to ensure their future success in defending our nation and deterring the aggressions of our adversaries.”

The Omaha Trophy, created in 1971, is awarded annually to USSTRATCOM’s best performing wings in five different categories: Ballistic Missile Submarine, Global Operations, ICBM, Strategic Aircraft and Strategic Bomber.
