Hoeven: Annual Tribal Leaders Summit Important Forum to Address Issues Impacting Indian Country

BISMARCK, N.D. – Senator John Hoeven today spoke to tribal leaders and tribal employees meeting in Bismarck to participate in the Annual Tribal Leaders Summit. The annual meeting serves as a forum to discuss timely issues impacting people in Tribal Nations across the Great Plans region.

“The Annual Tribal Leaders Summit is an important gathering for North Dakota’s tribes, tribal leaders and other state and local leaders” said Hoeven. “This meeting offers a strong platform to foster strong working relationships between leaders, discuss pressing matters and develop solutions to some the issues currently impacting Indian Country. The meeting also serves as a strong vehicle to help maintain our shared, longstanding commitment to improving the health, safety, and economies of our Tribal reservations.”

The United Tribes Tribal Leaders Summit was established 16 years ago to offer Tribal Leaders a forum to discuss issues and policy matters impacting Indian Country. This year’s conference, entitled Education Leading the Way to Sustainable Tribal Development, focused on energy, law enforcement, taxation in Indian Country, economic development, gaming, domestic violence and workforce.
