Hoeven Announces $46 Million in Loans for North Dakota Electric Cooperatives to Improve Infrastructure

WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven, chairman of the Senate Agriculture Appropriations Committee and a member of the Agriculture Committee, today announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development (RD) has awarded two loans totaling $46 million to Cass County Electric Co-op and Dakota Valley Electric Cooperative Inc. Details of the loans are as follows:

  • Cass County Electric Co-op – $25 million – The funds will be used to build more than 600 miles of power lines, improve existing lines and make other system improvements including investments in smart grid projects.
  • Dakota Valley Electric Cooperative Inc. – $21 million – The funds will be used to build more than 140 miles of power lines, improve existing lines and make other system improvements including investments in smart grid projects.

“Our electric cooperatives do a tremendous job of providing reliable and affordable power to individuals and communities throughout our state,” Hoeven said. “Today’s loans will help Dakota Valley and Cass County Electric Co-ops build new electric infrastructure and make their systems better and more efficient.”
