Hoeven Announces $174,000 STEAM Grant for NDSU Extension, Tribal Nations

WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven, chairman of the Senate Agriculture Appropriations Committee and a member of the Senate Agriculture Committee, today announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) has awarded $174,000 to North Dakota State University (NDSU). The funds will be used to create NDSU Extension Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM) youth development programs in rural school districts on the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation and Spirit Lake Nation Reservation.

“STEAM curriculum spurs interest in these fields, supporting academic and personal growth,” said Hoeven. “Today’s funding will enable our students to gain hands-on access to resources and technology, better equipping them to compete in the economy of the future.”
