Delegation Commemorates September 11 Anniversary

Hoeven, Heitkamp, Cramer to Host Reception for 188th Air Defense Artillery Regiment

WASHINGTON – Senators John Hoeven and Heidi Heitkamp and Congressman Kevin Cramer today are hosting a reception for the North Dakota National Guard’s (NDNG) 1st Battalion, 188th Air Defense Artillery Regiment in Washington in observance of the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

In April, the NDNG Regiment was deployed to the nation’s capital in support of Operation Noble Eagle and serves as part of the integrated air defense system designed to protect the airspace around the National Capitol Region. The soldiers focus on Avenger Air Defense System, Sentinel radar, National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System and Joint Air Defense Operation Center areas.

“As we reflect on the tragic events of Sept. 11 and honor the men, women and children who lost their lives in those senseless attacks, it is fitting that we express our appreciation to our military,” the delegation said. “Our North Dakota National Guard members, regular military and reservists have sacrificed much to protect our nation, and they continue to work around the clock to prevent such tragedies as 9/11 from happening again. North Dakotans have a long and proud tradition of serving in the armed forces, and also of honoring those who do. Today, we pay tribute to the victims and first responders who lost their lives on Sept. 11, and also to our brave men and women in uniform who have sacrificed so much to defend our nation since that fateful day.”
