Senator Hoeven will hold a roundtable at UND with FAA, state and university aviation officials – including Jay Merkle, head of the FAA’s unmanned aerial systems (UAS) Integration Office and Nick Flom, Executive Director of the Northern Plains UAS Test Site – to outline the Northern Plains UAS Test Site’s role in helping integrate small UAS into the nation’s airspace. The FAA selected the test site earlier this year to serve in its unmanned traffic management (UTM) pilot program, and it supports the North Dakota Department of Transportation as part of the FAA’s Integration Pilot Program.
