Hoeven Statement on National Security Supplmental

Senator Working to Support U.S. National Defense, Aid Israel

WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven, a member of the Senate Defense Appropriations Committee, issued the following statement after Congress approved national security supplemental funding legislation.

“With increasing unrest around the globe, including Iran’s recent attack on Israel, it’s more important than ever that we stand with Israel as they defend themselves against Hamas. At the same time, I continue to believe that U.S. support for Israel, Ukraine and Taiwan should be focused on military assistance, and more than half of the assistance in this package directly supports our own national defense. That includes replacing older equipment transferred to our partners with up-to-date assets for our troops. We need to continue pushing back on our shared adversaries, including Putin, Iran and Hamas, as well as ensuring we counter Chinese aggression. The House improved the legislation by making economic assistance to Ukraine a loan, and including a provision to use Russian assets to help cover costs. This legislation is important for both U.S. national security and to that of our allies.”
