WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven issued the following statement today after the Senate heard arguments regarding the constitutionality of the impeachment trial of former President Trump. The senator voted to declare the trial unconstitutional:
“Today we heard arguments on the constitutionality of impeaching a former president. As I’ve said before, I do not believe it is constitutional to impeach a president who is no longer in office and in fact the chief justice is not presiding.”
