Hoeven Statement on Federal District Court’s Ruling Against President Obama’s Executive Overreach

WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Senator John Hoeven (R-N.D.) today issued the following statement after a federal district judge issued a preliminary injunction against President Obama’s executive action on immigration. The legal challenge against the president’s executive overreach was brought by 26 states, including North Dakota:

“Today’s injunction by a U.S. District Court judge in Texas is a step toward affirming our belief that the president has acted beyond his executive authority in delaying action on and granting benefits to illegal immigrants without consulting Congress. This injunction is a reflection of the president trying to go around Congress and the Constitution.  While the courts address the president’s executive actions, I urge our Democratic colleagues in the Senate to do the responsible thing:  to drop their filibuster and vote to take up the funding bill for the Department of Homeland Security.”
