Hoeven Calls for Department of Homeland Security to be Funded

Senator Recognizes DHS Employees for Working Without Pay to Protect U.S. Against Threats, Adversaries

WASHINGTON – During remarks delivered on the floor of the U.S. Senate this week, Senator John Hoeven stressed the need to fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), including agencies like the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), to protect against threats from Iranian-backed groups and other adversaries. The senator called on Senate Democrats to vote to fund DHS, highlighting how Senate Republicans have offered:

  • To pass legislation already negotiated on a bipartisan basis to fund DHS, which includes funding for body cameras and additional training for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.
  • A clean Continuing Resolution (CR) that maintains the funding levels agreed to under President Biden while negotiations continue.

“The bottom line is this – Senate Democrats need to join with us to get DHS funded, so we can pay hardworking Americans from TSA to CISA, the folks who work to keep our nation safe. If Democrats want to continue to debate ICE reforms, we can do that, but at the very least, join with us in passing a Continuing Resolution so TSA gets paid while we do it… Let’s fund DHS and move on from this unnecessary shutdown. We owe it to the hardworking Americans at the Department of Homeland Security,” said Hoeven.
