Hoeven Statement on Passing of John Andrist

WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven today issued the following statement after the passing of renowned newspaper publisher and former state senator John Andrist:

“Throughout his life, John Andrist championed North Dakota while embodying our most cherished values. His work at the Journal in Crosby spanned nearly 60 years and thousands of articles. He rose to the heights of leadership in the newspaper industry including as president of the National Newspaper Association, from which he received its distinguished Amos Award, and the North Dakota Newspaper Association, which inducted him into its hall of fame in 2000.

“As a state senator for more than 20 years, John helped improve North Dakota and our rural communities through his insightful and caring work. I was privileged to work with him on many important issues for our state, and I was always struck by his kindness and overarching desire to do the right thing. He was devoted to his wife Elaine and family. We extend our prayers and condolences to his family and friends as we mourn the loss of a pillar of the Crosby community and our state.”
