Hoeven Celebrates Washington Elementary's Designation as National Blue Ribbon School

VALLEY CITY, N.D. – Senator John Hoeven today joined the Valley City community in congratulating the students, educators and families of Washington Elementary School on their designation as a 2015 National Blue Ribbon School Award Winner.

“We are proud of the entire Washington Elementary community and the hard work that led to their designation as a National Blue Ribbon School,” said Hoeven. “This is a distinction given to only the best schools in the nation and comes as a result of dedicated efforts from students, educators and families.”

Hoeven presented the students with a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol in their honor that can be displayed along with their National Blue Ribbon School flag. National Blue Ribbon designees are presented with a special blue ribbon flag to fly as a symbol of exemplary teaching and learning.

Washington Elementary was designated as a National Blue Ribbon Schools by the United States Department of Education in September. The National Blue Ribbon Program was founded in 1982 to recognize the work of the nation’s top schools. Since the program’s founding, the blue ribbon distinction has been awarded to schools achieving impressive results through exemplary teaching practices.

Earlier this month, Washington Elementary was formally recognized by the Department of Education at a ceremony held in Washington, D.C.
