WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that the U.S. Department of Education (ED) has awarded two grants totaling more than $10 million to the Solen and Oberon School Districts. The funds are awarded through ED’s Impact Aid Program and details are as follows:

  • Solen School District – $5,322,701 – The funds will be used to build a new Cannonball Elementary School, replacing the original structure which is more than 85 years old.
  • Oberon School District – $4,691,494 – The funds will be used to build a new Oberon Elementary School, replacing the original structure which is over 100 years old.

“It’s important to have a healthy and safe environment in order for students to learn and reach their full potential,” said Hoeven. “Today’s funds represent critical investments in the Standing Rock and Spirit Lake communities and will provide state-of-the art opportunities for students to learn skills that will prepare them for high school, college and beyond.”
