The project will reduce flood risk for more than 225\,000 people and 70 square miles of infrastructure. \nAs a member of the Appropriations Committee\, Senator Hoeven wrote and secured language in the year-end funding bill authorizing and funding new construction within the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ budget. It included nearly $690 million more than the Army Corps of Engineers’ proposed budget for construction\, and also helped to position the FM Diversion as a public-private partnership (P3) project. \nHoeven also secured support for the project by working with Jo-Ellen Darcy\, Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works\, then-Army Corps Chief of Engineers Lt. DESCRIPTION:Senator Hoeven will present medals to the families of two World War II Veterans\, Arthur Grosz and George Weber. Arthur volunteered for the Army in 1942\, when he was 19 years old. His company was first shipped to the Pacific\, but was later deployed with the 568 Quartermaster Railhead Company\, which was a supply group. Arthur passed away in February of 2016\, and the senator will present the medals to his son\, Terry. \nGeorge Weber enlisted in the Army in 1941 and served with the 4806th Service Unit at Camp J.T. Robinson in Arkansas. He took part in the second invasion of Guadalcanal in the South Pacific\, and after six months of hard combat in and around Guadalcanal\, Allied forces managed to halt the Japanese advance and dissuade them from contesting control of the island.
