Welcome Message

John and Mikey

Thank you for visiting my Senate website.

North Dakota continues to be a beacon of commonsense government, economic growth and job creation for the country, and I'm working to bring these same qualities to our nation's capital.

While much remains to be done, the Senate has achieved some notable goals in recent years, including a strong, long-term farm bill and major legislation to reform the Veterans Administration, which should improve the quality of life for our retired servicemen and women.

We have also reduced the nation's deficit by two-thirds, from a high of $1.4 trillion in 2009 to $492 billion in 2014. However, to truly address our deficit and debt and get Americans working again, we need to encourage investment and streamline regulations so that they are effective and achievable.

Energy development is a good example. I am advancing legislation to reform the regulatory process and to promote more oil and gas production to create jobs and economic opportunities for Americans. Thanks to private sector investment and innovation, the U.S. is now the world's largest oil and natural gas producer and we are doing so with good environmental stewardship. In fact, we are within striking range of true energy security, meaning we will produce as much energy as we use. Now, we need to reduce the barriers to development on public lands belonging to the people of the United States.

By building a pro-growth legal, regulatory and tax environment, North Dakota continues to expand and diversify our economy and create jobs and opportunity for our people. We have built a strong financial foundation and cut taxes, while making smart investments in priorities like infrastructure, education, health care and law enforcement.

As your Senator, I am taking this same approach in the U.S. Senate - an approach that empowers individuals and small businesses throughout our country. In North Dakota, we proved that if we work hard and build the right kind of business environment, we can create jobs, balance our budget, and develop the resources we need to create a better and brighter future for our children and ourselves.
