Hoeven Announces Nearly $350K in Colon Cancer Research Funds for NDSU

WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven today announced that the National Cancer Institute (NCI) has awarded a $346,325 grant to North Dakota State University (NDSU) for colon cancer research. Colorectal cancer is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer and third highest cause of cancer-related death in the United States. The funding will support the work of Dr. Bin Guo of NDSU’s Pharmaceutical Sciences Department.

“Almost all of us know someone who has battled cancer, and we know the great toll it takes not only on the patient and their loved ones, but society as a whole,” said Hoeven. “Today’s award is part of our larger effort to develop the best care options possible for those struggling with cancer and other serious ailments. That will mean less suffering, better recovery and longer life expectancy for our family, friends and people across all nations.”

As a member of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee, Hoeven has worked to support research programs at the National Institutes of Health and joined a bipartisan letter to committee leaders last year to prioritize such programs in the annual appropriations bills.
