Hoeven: $350,000 Grant Awarded to Abused Adult Resource Center in Bismarck

BISMARCK, N.D. – Senator John Hoeven today announced that the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has awarded a $352,416 grant to the Abused Adult Resource Center (AARC) in Bismarck to fund their transitional housing program. The AARC is a nonprofit, nongovernmental agency serving victims of physical assault and emotional abuse in south-central North Dakota.

“Law enforcement works hard to prevent abuse and assault, but when such crimes do occur, organizations like AARC provide the support and care that victims need,” Hoeven said.

In addition to the AARC grant, Hoeven announced last week the awarding of grants to local and state entities to combat sexual and domestic abuse. Several grants totaling $3 million were awarded to help rural and tribal officials in the Bakken region of North Dakota and Montana prosecute violent crimes against women and provide services to victims of sexual assault, domestic violence and stalking. The DOJ also awarded more than $270,000 in funding to the North Dakota Department of Health to support rape crisis centers, and provide funding for nonprofit organizations that provide direct intervention and core services to assist victims of sexual assault.

Senator Hoeven is a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee which passed the Commerce, Justice and Science (CJS) Appropriations bill in June. The bill directs the DOJ to develop a plan to support law enforcement in the Bakken.
