Hoeven Celebrates Manvel Elementary School's Designation as National Blue Ribbon School

MANVEL, N.D. – Senator John Hoeven today congratulated the students, educators and families of Manvel Elementary School on their designation as a 2014 National Blue Ribbon School Award Winner.

“The designation as a National Blue Ribbon School is a high honor that is only given to the nation’s best schools,” said Hoeven. “The Manvel School community should be extremely proud of their work to receive this designation, which comes as a result of dedicated efforts from students, educators and families,” said Hoeven.

Hoeven presented the students with a North Dakota flag that he will hang in his Capitol office in their honor then return to the school to be displayed along with their National Blue Ribbon School flag. National Blue Ribbon designees are presented with a special blue ribbon flag to fly as a symbol of exemplary teaching and learning.

Manvel Elementary and Sweetwater Elementary in Devils Lake were named as 2014 National Blue Ribbon Schools by the United States Department of Education. The National Blue Ribbon Program was founded in 1982 to recognize the work of the nation’s top schools. Since the program’s founding, the blue ribbon distinction has been awarded to schools achieving impressive results through exemplary teaching practices.

Earlier this month, the North Dakota schools were formally recognized by the Department of Education at a ceremony held in Washington, D.C.
