Hoeven Statement on the Administration's Proposed Action on Methane Emissions

WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven today issued the following statement in response to the Obama Administration’s proposed actions on methane emissions:

“The Obama administration today announced that it intends to issue more regulations on the oil industry to reduce methane gas emissions. Instead of going at it alone, the president should be working with Congress on commonsense legislation that will help to produce reliable and affordable energy for the nation with good environmental stewardship.

“That includes building more infrastructures like the Keystone XL pipeline and passing energy legislation that will encourage industry to invest in new technologies. For example, we’re working to reduce methane emissions in the right way with our North American Energy Security Act. Our bill will encourage investments, expedite the building of natural gas gathering systems on public lands and reduce flaring.

“We will continue to work in Congress on this and other legislation that will help to produce more energy with better environmental stewardship for the American people.”
