Hoeven Announces $400,000 in Cooperative Development Grants to Upgrade Technology in Rural Areas

WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven today announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded $400,000 to develop or expand rural businesses, especially cooperatives and mutually-owned businesses. Rural Cooperative Development Grant Program funding can be used to conduct feasibility studies, create and implement business plans, offer technical assistance, establish low-interest loans, and help rural businesses develop new markets for their products and services.

“As North Dakota grows, we need to ensure that our rural areas have the tools and resources necessary to grow as well,” Hoeven said. “These grants will help to create jobs and expand services to rural residents, businesses and tribe members.”

Mandan-based Common Enterprise Development Corporation (CEDC) will receive $200,000 to provide technical assistance to cooperatives and businesses in Native American tribes in North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota. The North Dakota Association of Rural Electric Cooperatives will receive $200,000 to provide technical assistance to cooperatives and mutually-owned businesses in North Dakota.
