Hoeven Announces More Than $23 Million in HUD Grants for North Dakota Native American Tribes

WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven today announced that North Dakota Native American housing authorities have received more than $23 million in grants from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Indian Housing Block Grant program. The funds can be used to help with housing services and management, increase crime prevention and develop affordable housing – which includes buying, building and rehabilitating housing.

  • Spirit Lake Sioux Tribe: $3,545,243
  • Standing Rock Sioux Tribe: $5,095,283
  • Three Affiliated Tribes of Fort Berthold: $4,956,317
  • Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa: $9,663,880
Total: $23,260,723

“Having access to affordable and safe housing is critical for the continued well-being of North Dakota’s Native Americans,” Hoeven said.  “These HUD grants will help our tribes throughout North Dakota meet their housing needs.”
