Hoeven Announces More than $7 Million in Housing Grants for North Dakota

WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven today announced that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is awarding $7,057,254 in formula funding to the North Dakota Department of Commerce, Division of Community Services. The funds are being awarded from three HUD programs:

  • Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) – $3,609,246– CDBG supports state and local efforts to ensure access to decent housing and suitable living environments, as well as expanding economic opportunities, primarily for moderate- and low-income households.
  • HOME Investment Partnership Program – $3,002,167 – The HOME program helps increase the number of affordable housing units for low- and very-low income families through grants to state and local governments for local housing.
  • Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) – $445,841 – ESG supports state and local efforts to prevent homelessness through the rehabilitation and operation of emergency homeless shelters, transitional shelters and other social services.

“North Dakota’s growing economy has attracted many to come to our state to make a better life for themselves and their families,” Hoeven said. “As we grow, we need to invest in our communities and families by addressing critical infrastructure, including access to affordable housing.”

As a member of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee, Senator Hoeven works to secure funds through annual appropriations bills and support programs that address the infrastructure needs of North Dakota’s growing population, including affordable and safe housing.
