Hoeven, Thune Place Friendly Wager on Outcome of this Weekend's NDSU VS SDSU Football Game

WASHINGTON – Senators John Hoeven and John Thune (R-S.D.) today agreed to a friendly wager for this weekend’s football game between North Dakota State University (NDSU) and South Dakota State University (SDSU). NDSU and SDSU both moved to Division I in 2003, and their annual meeting has come to be known as the Dakota Marker game. The winner gets to take home the Dakota Marker, a 75-pound model replica of the original quartzite monuments that used to frame the border between the two states.

Hoeven is betting that the NDSU Bison will take home the win, while Senator Thune is predicting that the SDSU Jackrabbits will claim the victory. Hoeven has agreed to wager North Dakota’s famous bison steaks, while Senator Thune has offered up a variety of meats and cheeses made by SDSU students and sold at the Dairy Bar on campus.

“The Bison are four-time defending national champions in Division I FCS football, and are currently ranked 2nd in the latest FCS coaches poll,” Hoeven said. “I’m looking forward to watching the Thundering Herd continue its winning streak and enjoying some SDSU-made meat and cheese. Go Bison!”

“After a close loss in the playoffs last year, I know the Jacks are hungry for revenge – and the way Lujan and Wieneke have been firing on offense, I’m feeling good about SDSU’s chances year,” said Thune. “If the Bison are somehow able to get the best of the Jackrabbits, Senator Hoeven can count on receiving some SDSU meat and cheese, which taste good after a win or a loss. I’m feeling pretty confident, though, that Senator Hoeven will have to travel to Brookings if he wants any SDSU meat and cheese since I’ll be enjoying those North Dakota bison steaks – an ironic choice – that he wagered on the game. Go Jacks!”

The game will take place at the Coughlin-Alumni Stadium in Brookings, South Dakota on Saturday, October 3 at 6:00 p.m. CDT.
